In our last blog post, we talked about how children with medical complexities can benefit from visiting a summer camp. Though this is very beneficial for many children, very few people know what the summer camp opportunities are. The team at Evergreen Home Health Care provides in-home care throughout Westminster for children with medical complexities, but we are also strong supporters of children taking advantage of the camp opportunities available to them. For that reason, we want to give you a little bit of information on the camps that you may want to look into.

Roundup River Ranch — Gypsum, CO

This camp is associated with the SeriousFun Children’s Network — a community of people that believe that children with serious illnesses need a place to “kick back and raise a little hell.” This camp hosts various events throughout the state of Colorado for children who are suffering from serious illnesses to attend.

From physical activities like bike rides to simple get together like breakfast, this organization offers plenty of opportunities for your child to forget their worries and have a little bit of fun.

This 3-day camp is a fantastic way for women with physical disabilities to get a taste of some of Colorado’s most exhilarating pastimes.

From whitewater rafting to biking and hiking, this camp provides all of the care and excitement that these women need to have some fun this summer. The female staff is well equipped to handle any medical needs that your child needs, so you can rest easy knowing that they’re taken care of.

First Descents — Denver CO, Ouray, CO, Rocky Mountain National Park, CO

Adventure is out there, and your child deserves the opportunity to discover it. This organization provides individuals who have suffered, or survived, cancer to participate in life-changing experiences. Individuals between the ages of 18 to 35 are given a chance to explore some of the world’s most beautiful areas by doing some of the wildest activities.

These programs take place in various states — and even some other countries — so it’s worth looking into if you have a child that is hungry for some adventures. These programs are prepared to have the individualized care and medical attention that all guests need so that they can thoroughly enjoy the time that they’re going to have. The best part? These camps are offered free of cost to participants!

Breckenridge Outdoor Education Center — Breckenridge, CO

The team at Breckenridge Outdoor Education Center believe that one of the best ways for children to overcome medical and emotional struggles is through experiencing the outdoors. This team organizes camps for children with sensory processing disorders, visual impairments, and developmental disabilities.

Beyond the more common activities that summer camps try to incorporate, the team at this facility do their best to offer additional opportunities and activities along with the fun outdoor adventures that are often found.

From skiing and rafting to wilderness education programs and internships, this group of individuals does everything that they can to initiate social skill growth and endless fun. One of the reasons that we love this camp is that they offer the opportunity to enroll an entire group or to sign up individually — either way, they’ll accommodate your needs so that each of these adventures is something memorable.
